Abstract:

Attracting students with have social and research initiatives, projects and programs is strategically important for positioning the country´s leading universities in international and Russian ratings. An important indicator of the development of students in research, social, creative or sports activities during their studies at the university is the skills and achievements of the school years, therefore universities are certainly interested in attracting applicants with high potential and motivation for achievements - highly competitive. To attract just such applicants, the university should focus on their needs, understand what factors influence their choice of educational institution. An analysis of the results of a survey of thirty highly competitive first-year students of Tomsk State University revealed that the location (geographical location) of the university, the level of quality of education, the prestige of the university and the availability of budget places are decisive factors in choosing a university for highly competitive applicants. Also, according to the results of the survey, applicants needed professional tests at the events of the departments to understand the characteristics of the future of study. We analyzed all the events held at the faculties and identified interactive formats in them that made it possible to make a professional test: a business game; intellectual game; creation of a design product and self-training. In order to identify the most effective format, we conducted a career guidance program for a target group of highly competitive applicants. The results of the exit questionnaire of participants in the professional test cycle allowed us to identify the most effective interactive format within the professional test at university faculties - this is self-study with subsequent consolidation of information (the format of the business game was the second most effective). Thus, attracting highly competitive applicants using an interactive self-study format in a professional test will allow an applicant to understand what his professional activities will be and what opportunities the faculty and university will provide for the development of its design, research, social, sports and creative activities; This will fulfill the social order of highly competitive applicants and increase the attractiveness of the university.

Keywords: attraction of applicants, professional test, high competitiveness, career guidance work.
